28th Annual Juried Photo Exhibit

Details and Rules for the Show
Registration Opens April 1, 2024

All registration of entries is done online.   No registration will be available at drop off.  Registration begins on April 1, 2024 and registration cut-off is 12 midnight, Friday, April 26, 2024.

An email address is required for submission. The entry form must be completed in full for each for each photograph you enter.

Juried Show Information
Selected photographs will be exhibited at the Thomas T. Taber Museum of the Lycoming County Historic Society from May 10 to May 31, 2024. The show opens with a wine and cheese reception at 6:00 PM on Friday, May 10, 2024.

This year the Shutterbugs will award $1200 in prize money in recognition of the photographic excellence of the top entries. All entries will be judged by a panel of judges with recognized expertise in photography and fine art. Judges Awards will be presented at the reception.

Awards
This show is open to the public.  Color and black-and-white photographs will be judged together. Cash prizes will be awarded as follows:

  • Best in Show – $400.00
  • First Place – $300.00
  • Second Place – $200.00
  • Third Place – $100.00
  • Honorable Mention – $ 50.00
  • Judge’s Choice (1 per judge= 3 ribbons) – $50.00 each

In addition to the cash awards, attendees of the opening are given the opportunity to cast 5 votes for their favorite pieces.  People’s Choice ribbons will be awarded as a result of voting by opening night participants that are non-monetary in value.

Conditions for Entry
The competition is open to the public and all amateur and professional photographers. You may submit up to a total of 4 prints (color and/or black and white).

  • Entries must be the original work of the photographer and may not have been shown in a previous Susquehanna Valley Shutterbugs show. Photographers’ signatures will be covered during judging.
  • Images may be manipulated and composited within the edges of the mat, but the final result must be made from the photographer’s original images.
  • Images must be presented in a plain black frame
  • Images must be presented with a single plain white mat with a white core.  There may not be any artificial borders or embossed mats.
  • Frames must have a sturdy wire attached to the back of the frame and the wire may not be visible when hung. No exposed glass edges and no saw-tooth hangers will be accepted.  Frames that are not self-supporting or have loose structural integrity while being handled will be disqualified. Images, including frame, may not exceed 30″ in either dimension. Acceptance of pieces will be at the discretion of the Show Committee.
  • Although photographs will be handled carefully, the Susquehanna Valley Shutterbugs cannot be responsible or liable in any way for their loss or damage.
  • Displayed work must remain on display until Friday, May 31, 2024.

Fees
A non-refundable entry fee of $10.00 for SVS members, $25.00 for non-members, and ½ off for students, per photograph, must accompany each entry.  Make checks payable to Susquehanna Valley Shutterbugs. 

Exhibit space is limited to 65 entries. No refunds will be granted if an entry is rejected for failure to follow the rules or the entry does not make the Judges cut to be accepted into the exhibit. The decisions of the judges are final.

 Your entry constitutes an understanding and agreement with the “conditions for entry” and “fees” of the exhibition.

Delivery
Entries will be received at the Lycoming County Historical Museum, 858 West Fourth Street, Williamsport, PA on Monday, April 29th (before the group meeting) between 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm and Sunday, May 5th between 11 am and 2 pm.  No entries will be accepted after 2 pm Sunday, May 5th.  

Notification
Acceptance into the show does not necessarily mean that the photograph was chosen as one of the prize winners by the judges.

Pickup
Photographs not accepted for display in the show may be picked up during the show’s opening night reception on Friday, May 10 from 6 pm to 8 pm or Saturday, June 1, 2024 from 11 am to 1 pm.

Accepted photographs and any remaining eliminated photographs may be picked up at the museum on Saturday, June1,2024 between 11 am and 1 pm or by special appointment with the Show Chairman.

No photographs may be removed from the exhibition prior to the closing of the exhibit on, May 31, 2024.

All photos submitted for the Juried Show must be picked up within 1 week of the show’s closing. Failure pick up your photos by this time will result in them becoming the property of the Susquehanna Valley Shutterbugs.
